Be A Company That Cares

Corporate giving is not a new concept, and yet we don’t often take the time to think about it’s impact. Here are a few benefits of corporate giving:*

  • Corporate philanthropy increases employee engagement and productivity. Up to 78% of employees want to engage is initiatives centered on giving.

  • Corporate philanthropy improves brand awareness and reputation. When you give, let your employees, customers, prospects, partners, and community know. The more good you spread, the better your brand perception.

  • Corporate philanthropy helps you attract top talent. Younger generations, especially millennials, are driving a shift and part of that includes considering a company’s values when deciding where to work.

  • Corporate philanthropy has been known to increase sales. When choosing between two brands of equal value, 90 percent of consumers are likely to switch to a cause-branded product.

  • Corporate philanthropy has tax benefits. While it could take time to realize some of the other benefits of giving, tax benefits come quickly.

Deciding which nonprofit to support in your corporate giving initiatives can be a big decision. Will your employees and company community approve of your choice? At Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF), we feel as though we have something for everyone. That’s because we don’t just support one organization, we support many. From after school mentorship programs that help transform the lives of young people, to those who feed the hungry or care for the sick, BFGCF offers diversity.

If your company is ready to become more socially responsible, consider becoming a recurring donor as a member of The Perseverando Society. You donations will help the Foundation reach more nonprofit organizations and touch more lives.

Make a difference at work or at home by joining The Perseverando Society.

Recurring Giving: Helping You, Help Others

Doing things for other people is a natural way to bring happiness to yourself, as well as to those around you. Sustaining gifts provide stability to nonprofits, but, in a way, it also helps people gain a sense of being valuable, helpful, and worthwhile to the charity of their choosing.

The unique mission of Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF) allows donors to expand the reach of their financial gifts, so they can impact multiple nonprofits every year.

Studies show that donors give money because they feel empowered by seeing their impact, and a recurring donation is a great way to maximize your impact on an organization.*

Not only is choosing to give on a recurring basis convenient for you and helps you stay connected to the Foundation, but it is also easier to fold into your budget than a one-time gift. It allows you to choose an amount that works for you and ensures you are doing your part to support the Foundation – whether it be on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis. And, just like Netflix (but without the price hikes!) you’re able to “set it and forget.”

Becoming a member of The Perseverando Society and starting your recurring donation is easy! Plus, you won’t have to worry about writing a check, buying a stamp, or remembering to visit our website on a specific date. As an even added bonus, it is a ‘greener’ way to support a nonprofit because you are able to eliminate the additional paper use.

Building your philanthropic giving into your monthly budget allows you to invest in the important work the Foundation is doing day in and day out.

Many donors find that sustaining gifts allow them to be more generous. At the end of the year, a $50 gift to your favorite organization may feel burdensome. However, if you spread your support out throughout the year and give $5 a month, then at the end of the year you will have donated $60 which is 20% more!

Support the Foundation by becoming a member of The Perseverando Society and experience how easy it is to impact multiple nonprofits every year with your recurring gift!

Touch More Lives with The Perseverando Society

There are a lot of great charities that are truly making a difference in the lives of others and, as a recurring donor, you are not only a part of the Foundation’s success, but also are a part of that organization’s success. As a member of BFGCF’s community, you will be continually learning about a variety of charities, including who they are helping and how with your continued support.

The unique mission of Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF) allows donors to expand the reach of their financial gifts, so they can impact multiple nonprofits every year.

The Foundation makes a difference in the lives of others by partnering with private, growth-oriented nonprofit organizations in the local community who have made it their life’s mission to care for the less fortunate. Through gifts from individuals and families, such as yourself, every year we have the honor of recognizing and awarding a select number of outstanding nonprofits with a financial grant through our Champion in Life Program.

Touching Young Lives is a 2021 and 2019 Champion in Life Grant award recipient.
Their mission is simple: safe sleep in the simplest form. Touching Young Lives’ nonprofit work focuses on the health and wellbeing of infants and children by providing families and caregivers best practices in childcare and education and resources across socio-economic lines through Portable Alternative Cribs (PACs), programs, and events.

The first-year grant funds were used exclusively to scale their "Safe Sleep All-star" pilot program. This community-based and driven initiative is led by former PAC users in high infant mortality neighborhoods within the seven jurisdictions that they are currently distributing to. This 7-month, peer-led model will allow community members to educate fellow community members and peers from a first-person perspective about their familiarity with the following: safe sleep education, proper PAC usage, and general infant care practices.

The arrival of spring is a symbolic time for most. One filled with opportunities for giving the rooms in our homes that much needed refresh or perhaps giving you the boost you need to finally clean out the garage. Like the spaces around us, spring also presents the opportunity for us to refocus our minds and our hearts. Directing your energy toward improving your mind, body, and spirit can help make you more mindful of how you allocate your time and resources, as well as help to establish boundaries so you are not feeling burnt out.

One way to work towards this is by slowing down and thinking about what makes you feel fulfilled and happy. Are you able to take time for yourself to do things you enjoy? Are you spending quality time with the people you care about? Do you feel like you are making forward progress in specific areas of your life? Do you feel like you are making a positive difference in your community?

Studies show that charitable giving can actually boost your physical and mental health.* How wonderful it is to know that you can experience greater happiness and satisfaction, lower stress levels, and increased self-esteem from an act of kindness like giving to a charity in need. The unique mission of Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF) enables you to make a charitable gift and feel a heightened sense of fulfillment knowing that your donation helps to support the great works of countless nonprofits in your community, whom we recognize as our Champions in Life (CILs).

Your recurring donation, no matter the size and frequency, makes a direct impact on the mission of our CILs. Your kindness and generosity enable us to fulfill our mission of sheltering the homeless, feeding and caring for families, fostering the educational needs of our youth, and supporting those who protect our community.

Building a Community-Conscious Company

Social responsibility has taken a front seat in terms of corporate priorities, thanks to the more than 139 million Gen Z and Millennials who are pushing for change on societal issues. As a result, businesses are being held accountable for their own level of involvement, as employees and consumers direct their choices toward companies making a concerted effort in helping to build a better world.

While this is great for nonprofits and community organizations who are reaping the benefits, businesses are realizing plenty of perks as well.

If your company has a plan in place that drives community involvement, you can expect to see:

  • A boost in employee engagement

  • Stronger brand awareness

  • Heightened company reputation

  • More meaningful connections

  • Lower employee attrition

  • Improved collaboration

  • Greater employee morale

  • A rise in the level of talent your company attracts

  • Opened doors for growth

If you don’t currently have a plan in place to be a more community-conscious company, a few basic elements to consider include:

  • Donating to a community-centered charity

  • Starting an employee giving (and matching) campaign

  • Spreading the word to customers about the causes you love

  • Going green

  • Offering mentorship and internship opportunities

  • Encouraging employees to volunteer

  • Starting a community page on your website

  • Forming a community-support committee

  • Talking about your efforts regularly with employees to gain greater company engagement

  • Highlighting and rewarding random acts of kindness

By becoming a community-conscious company, you bring a strong sense of purpose to the workplace. Studies on having a connection to a purpose find employees are 175% more productive and 64% more fulfilled than those without that same connection.* Similarly, companies with a connection to their purpose will be glad to know that purpose-driven firms are 30% more innovative and enjoy higher margins.*

Choosing Your Community-Centered Charity

If you have a Maryland-based company, consider Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF). A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, BFGCF makes a difference in the lives of others by partnering with private, growth-oriented nonprofit organizations in our local community who have made it their life’s mission to care for the less fortunate and recognize them as our Champions in Life. Not only do we provide our Champions with grant funds, but we also offer professional and personal support and skills, like strategic planning, mentorship, accounting, and so much more. All of this support is designed to help each nonprofit grow and thrive.

By supporting the great works of community nonprofits, we are able to fulfill our mission of sheltering the homeless, feeding and caring for families, fostering the educational needs of our youth, and supporting those who protect our community.

The Perseverando Society recognizes the generosity of our greatest supporters. Its members are not defined by how much they give, but by their dedication. This special group is comprised of individuals, families, and businesses who have elected to recognize Building for God Community Foundation in their legacy giving and/or have chosen to donate to our mission on any recurring basis, including recurring employee giving program gifts.

Honor Someone You Love This Valentine’s Day

There are many ways to honor those we love – with words, gifts, and gestures. One that is very special comes in the form of a recurring gift to a charitable organization. Become one of Building for God Community Foundation’s greatest supporters and honor someone important in your life by dedicating your recurring gift in their name.

Gift giving is part of our culture. Whether it is to mark a special occasion, like Valentine’s Day, or simply to show someone we are thinking of them, gifts help us make a connection with others. While most all gifts are appreciated, not every one of them has a lasting effect. For those most important in our lives, a wonderful option – one that goes beyond material possessions – is honoring them through charitable giving.

Gifts that honor another individual usually come in two forms – memorial gifts and tributes.

Memorial: Preserving the Memory of Someone You Love While Giving Back to Others. Many of us have lost someone special – someone we think of often. Every time we see a photo or hear a story about them, our hearts are warmed with love. Making a recurring gift in their name is a wonderful way to cherish their memory, celebrate their life, and keep them tied closely to the things in life you care about most.

Tribute: Honoring Someone Special by Helping Someone in Need. Are you fortunate enough to have someone in your life who is worthy of a tribute? If so, consider yourself blessed. A tribute gift is one made in honor of a special individual. It’s a personal gift that not only makes a statement but can last a lifetime.

There are probably more people in your life worthy of a special gift than you realize. Here are just a few great choices when it comes to honoring someone special:

  • Someone special you have lost

  • A special family member

  • A mentor or person who has influenced your life

  • A best friend

  • Someone with a giving heart

  • A new baby you wish to celebrate

  • A person who doesn’t need or want material gifts

  • A child who can learn from your dedication of giving back

  • A role model

  • Your Valentine

You Both Benefit

It’s also important to note that while the person you honor is recognized by the charity you choose, you will be eligible for the tax deduction because you’re funding the gift. Just be sure to choose a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and, for tax purposes, save your receipts with the proper tax identification number notated.

Choosing Your Charity

Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF) makes a difference in the lives of others by partnering with private, growth-oriented nonprofit organizations in our local community who have made it their life’s mission to care for the less fortunate and recognize them as our Champions in Life.

This special group is comprised of individuals and families who have elected to recognize Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF) in their legacy giving and/or have chosen to donate to our mission on any recurring basis, including recurring employee giving program gifts.

This February, give a gift from the heart. Join the Perseverando Society and a recurring gift in the name of someone special. Learn more or enroll in The Perseverando Society.

Start the Year Off Right with a Recurring Gift

If this is the year you want to make an impact, consider becoming a recurring gift giver. It only takes a few minutes to enroll but the benefits to you and those you support can last a lifetime. Find out how your recurring gift can change a life.

The benefits to you and to others might surprise you!

How many New Years resolutions did you make this year? There are a lot of top 10 lists describing what most of us are hoping to accomplish for the year. For some, quitting smoking or losing weight tops the charts, while others are looking for a new job or are planning to eat healthier. However, there are also a number of favorite resolutions we believe not only go together well, but also should be on everyone’s list for the 2022. They include:

  • Pay attention to your finances

  • Do something that makes you feel good

  • Do good deeds

  • Improve your health

  • Stop procrastinating

We’d like to help you make a resolution that is easy to stick to and can allow you to check multiple boxes with just one act. The answer? Make a recurring gift to your favorite nonprofit.

The Benefits of Recurring Gifts

Whether or not you have ever considered becoming a recurring donor, now is a great time to begin. Any amount will be welcomed and the benefits that come with your charitable donation are many. Here are a few that correspond with our favorite resolutions mentioned above.

You’ll be eligible for a tax deduction. A tax deduction is sure to help your finances. Be sure to choose a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. For tax purposes, you should be receiving a receipt with the proper tax identification number notated.

You can make yourself happier! That’s right, engaging in kind acts has proven to lead to greater happiness over time.* Realizing you’re helping others on a regular basis throughout the year is great for your psyche. And, helping those who are in need can give you a new perspective on your own problems.

You’ll be ‘paying it forward’. On some level, we all have an obligation to “pay it forward”. That’s because we never know when we might need help in the future. Recurring gifts “pay it forward” every single month. Good care, good karma.

Giving back can improve your health. Studies show that giving back or doing good deeds can have a significant impact on your blood pressure, help to reduce stress, and even fosters improved mental health.1

Set it and forget it. If procrastination is your downfall, recurring giving is for you! Simply decide which charitable organization to support and commit to an amount. Set up your account on the nonprofit’s website and your gift will arrive on time, every time. If you’re wondering when to start, the answer is simple. Now, of course – otherwise you’ll be procrastinating!

Help choosing a charity

There are a lot of great charities that are truly making a difference in the lives of others and, as a recurring donor, you can be a part of that organization’s success. But, by supporting Building for God Community Foundation (BFGCF), you can impact multiple nonprofits every year with each recurring gift you make. It’s hard to grasp all the different ways others need help and the different way to help them. As a member of BFGCF’s community, you will be continually learning about a variety of charities and who they are helping and how with your continued support. It’s eye-opening and rewarding.

Why December ‘Tis the Season for Planned and Recurring Giving

Include your favorite charity on your Christmas list this year and support them with a planned or recurring gift. Here are five reasons to make this the season for planned giving.

Let your good fortune change lives for the better.

If you’ve considered legacy or recurring giving this year but haven’t yet put this generous thought into motion, the holidays might be the perfect time. In fact, nearly one-third of charitable giving happens between Thanksgiving and the end of the year.* Here are a few reasons to get excited about making a commitment to your favorite charity organization in December.

1.      You can share your gift with a loved one. There comes a time when you just don’t need any more “stuff”. That’s when gifts to local charities often take on a deeper meaning. Talk to your family members about leaving a legacy gift in your family’s name this holiday season. After all, generosity is a great gift and makes a great legacy.

2.      You can spread some good will. During the holidays, we’re reminded of our many blessings and, as a result, often turn our hearts to those in need. Holiday acts of good will often come in the form of a donation. Rather than giving one lump sum, consider becoming a recurring donor and spread good will all year long. As a bonus, you’ll feel good doing it! Studies show that when we repeatedly give to others the feeling of joy continues over time.**

3.      You’re setting a great example. For families, acts of service become teaching points for your children and other relatives. Talk about your plans to support your favorite charity with others. Not only does it educate them on the work being done, but the example you set also imprints on their hearts.

4.      You can honor someone you love who has passed away. If you’ve lost someone who is special to you, the holidays can be difficult. Lift your heart and the memory of your loved one by establishing a recurring gift as a memorial.

5.      Uncle Sam is watching. Though it might not sound very festive, Uncle Sam is keeping closer tabs on you than Santa ever did! Why? Because tax season is right around the corner. Recurring gifts to a nonprofit are tax deductible and are easy to ‘set and forget’. Enroll this holiday season and stop rushing around to meet year-end giving deadlines in the future.

The holidays are certainly upon us. It’s a season of joy and giving. It’s also the perfect time to let your favorite charity know that they have your support. And remember, when it comes to recurring gifts, no amount is too large or too small. When we’re working – and giving – together, we can make a true difference in the world.
